ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to specifying the political economy of conflict within the political economy and its application on the subset of conflicts concerning secessionism. The origins of the economic ars et scientia might be recognised in the political economy as formed by the classical school of political economy. Political economy as a science has its roots in the economic discussion of wars. European integration, especially regarding economic integration, is a substantial economic secessionist factor. European economic integration provides the European secessionist regions with a protective umbrella. A genuine love for the nation and a desire for its flourishing inspires many nationalists in nations without states, especially in those cases where the nation feels culturally, politically, or economically oppressed by the state. The long-term history of country formation and separation has been influenced by the pattern of trade openness and economic integration and vice versa.
