ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter discusses policy implications and future research on the issue of crony capitalism, growth and inequality. It points out that there are also reforms driven by politicians, not only by export-oriented business, and lays out the conditions under which this may happen. It also discusses how the rise of new technologies and innovative ventures may break down crony capitalism without the need for a political reform. The chapter ends with a reminder that, perhaps symbolically, the first big revolution of the twenty-first century was triggered by a street vendor protesting against cronyism and for a healthy market economy.
