ABSTRACT
In this chapter we first outline the significance of separations from caregivers in the history of attachment theory. Second, Bowlby’s depiction of the typical development of attachment in the first few years of a child’s life is described. Third and finally, we discuss the reality and importance of multiple attachments in children’s lives.
