ABSTRACT
In this chapter we first consider the emergence of a fourth category of attachment within attachment theory and research, disorganised attachment. The role of alarming caregiver behaviour is then addressed, because alarm has been postulated as central to the development of disorganised attachment. In the third and final section, we address questions of development (stability and change) in attachment quality after the early years.
