ABSTRACT

Second year should continue the spirit of exploration with form, colour and representation – yet also, a confidence with structure and materiality should begin to manifest itself. Starting second year can feel that student are starting university again. Architectural tutors often see a certain forgetfulness when the autumn arrives and many put this down to the length of the academic summer recess. First year will have given student the confidence to work a little more swiftly and independently. The jump between years can be quite large, and student will probably be living away from university this year in shared accommodation with other students. All schools distribute academic credits according to the perceived importance of tasks/workload for a given subject and stage of architectural education. All architectural courses are different, but the scale of work will typically increase with each project. Second year naturally increases in skill-level and many strides will be made.
