ABSTRACT

Contingent methods refer to individual research methods that have to be used together with another method in order to be functional. Both methods covered in this chapter are contingent methods. Specifically, the think-aloud protocol (TAP) method needs to involve the experiment method (e.g., performing a task, doing a test) in its implementation. The Delphi method depends on the use of questionnaires for data-gathering purposes. Each method is described and presented in a separate section of this chapter with a focus on their features, types if appropriate, using one in research, and related dos and don'ts. A case study is performed for each of the two contingent methods (i.e., TAPs and Delphi study) covered in this chapter.
