ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how to develop research methodology as a chief component in research design. It also states that research methodology development starts with selection of data collection techniques. Only after data are collected can researchers decide how the data will be analyzed. This chapter emphasizes that method selection should be done based on research questions of a study and functions/features of relevant methods – the two major factors to be considered in the selection process of data collection techniques. Research method applicability can facilitate the method selection process by offering additional guidance regarding which method can be used alone or otherwise. As each data collection technique can only gather certain kind of data, this chapter recommends that more than one technique should be adopted to collect all the data a study needs to address its research questions. Likewise, each data analysis technique has its unique functions and features. Therefore, multiple techniques should be selected and applied integrally for data collection and analysis so that their benefits are maximized and their limitations are mitigated.
