ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to questionnaire, also known as survey, as a technique for data collection using a predefined list of questions. Topics covered in this chapter include major components in a survey, types of questions asked in the questionnaire (i.e., closed-ended, and open-ended), how to develop a questionnaire according to research questions, primary approaches to administering a questionnaire, and how to conduct questionnaire research. The issues of sample size and response rate in questionnaire research are also considered. Two sets of dos and don'ts are presented for questionnaire development and questionnaire research, respectively. This chapter ends with two case studies, one on questionnaire development and one on using questionnaire as a data collection technique in research.
