ABSTRACT
Economic inequality in Latin America is rivaled only by parts of Africa. It intersects gender and ethnic division. If we examine “precarity” in Latin America, we find it most pronounced in the “informal sector,” which is a product of the movement of people from the countryside to the city. However, precarity extends well into the middle class. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the salience to a degree we do not yet fully comprehend.
