ABSTRACT

Stress relates to the pressure a person experiences. A person will experience stress at work if there is too little recovery time and if the balance between work load and capacity is seriously or protractedly upset. The perceived pressure will then result in stress reactions. Research shows that role ambiguity and role conflict are accompanied by tension, anxiety and the inclination to change jobs. Role ambiguity and conflict can be resolved or prevented by the clear definition of the tasks and responsibilities that are part of a person’s job. All kinds of circumstances can produce conflicts in organisations. The conflict perceived by the anaesthetist can be approached in different ways. In collaboration, the parties defend their own interests and those of others at the same time. They deal with conflict assertively and positively. Personality traits can also play a part in the manner in which a person deals with conflict.
