Cohesion influences collaboration between group members. Nederhof and H. Steensma have studied the relationship between role fulfilment within groups and quality of collaboration. All kinds of events that make decision-making necessary take place in organisations. A clear structure can be created by taking into account the phases that have been identified in the processes of problem-solving and decision-making. Effective decision-making in groups can be promoted by two main types of input: task-oriented and group-oriented input. Good leadership of the decision-making process is possible only if the leader has no strong interests or views with respect to the problem to be resolved or the parties in a conflict. In self-managing teams, team members must both perform the work and make decisions. Effective collaboration and joint responsibility for group tasks require a good atmosphere and mutual confidence. If these are lacking, discussion and decision-making will be impeded and there is a danger that some group members will not do their work properly.
