ABSTRACT

This book represents a summary of initial thoughts provided by everyday African Americans about their lived experience of sexuality. That said, this exploration would be incomplete in its potential effectiveness without equal consideration of the usefulness of Black Sexual Epistemology as both a theoretical framework and practical tool for future engagement with this population. This final chapter closes out the book by articulating BSE’s place within the canon of sexology research to date while highlighting several opportunities from which new theoretical exploration could emerge. It continues by placing BSE within the context of popular American culture and then proceeds toward providing professional implications for sex education, sex therapy, social work and other helping professions. The chapter concludes by offering suggestions and an invitation for specific ways that BSE could be incorporated into sexological practice to reverse the effects of anti-Blackness. The book’s end ideally leaves the reader intrigued and encouraged to engage in further exploration of and contention with the cumulative body of ideas presented.
