ABSTRACT

All of the psychological elements discussed in this chapter are elements of the field of study that is termed internationally organizational behavior. Daniel Katz and Robert Kahn identified six important sources within organizations and businesses that provoke resistance: Exaggerated stability; a too-limited outlook for change; Group inertia; Threatened expertise; Threatened power; and Assignment of means. There are also important reasons at the individual level for resistance to change. There’s an ongoing transformation in the very way businesses define their Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Conflicts can arise between the different attitudes someone holds. In daily practice in businesses people are continuously steered by their perceptions. Much research has been devoted to the ways one can describe or map personality characteristics. In recent years there has been much attention devoted to so-called emotional intelligence as a personality characteristic. The simplest – but nevertheless important – classification of motivation is that of extrinsic motivation vs. intrinsic motivation.
