ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a closer look at intuitive eating, a concept created by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch in their 1995 book Intuitive Eating. The authors walk readers through the ten principles of intuitive eating including, but not limited to: rejecting the diet mentality, challenging the food police, honoring your hunger, feeling your fullness, and managing emotions without using food. The authors discuss the role each principle plays in recovery and how that role can change over time. The authors provide real-life examples of what these principles look like in practice and how readers can adopt them into their lives and their recoveries.
