ABSTRACT

Despite what diet culture might lead you to believe, all foods can fit into a healthy diet (barring genuine medical restrictions). Here, the authors talk about the function of different macronutrients (i.e. carbs, protein, and fat) in your body and discuss what happens when you restrict these nutrients. They talk about a “fear food hierarchy” and how to start challenging any specific fear foods. The authors also share what to expect when re-introducing certain foods, and how to cope with anxiety that comes up during the process. Additionally, they explain the difference between processing and distraction coping strategies and provide examples of both.
