ABSTRACT

Contrary to popular belief, binge eating has nothing to do with “willpower.” In this chapter, the authors debunk myths about binge eating. They also discusses common binge eating triggers, which include physical restriction, emotional restriction, habituation, and emotional factors. Additionally, the authors share an action plan for helping people to begin the recovery journey from binge eating disorder. Jennifer Rollin also details out her PAUSE skill for binge eating disorder recovery, which individuals can use in moments when they are experiencing urges to binge eat. The acronym stands for pause, allow space, use other coping skills and statements, separate your eating disorder thoughts and urges, and enlist help from a supportive person.
