ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Bers introduces her Positive Technological Development (PTD) framework, a framework that describes positive psychosocial behaviors that children can engage with by using developmentally appropriate technologies and technology-rich activities. These positive behaviors are also called the “six Cs,” and they include: collaboration, communication, community building, content creation, creativity, and choices of conduct. The chapter first explores how each positive behavior that children exhibit when using technology indicates their engagement with and development of a positive character trait. After this, the chapter describes the PTD cards, a practical tool developed by Bers’ DevTech research group to support adults in successfully selecting and deploying technologies to support each behavior in the PTD framework.
