ABSTRACT

There are three types of basic collars: the flat, the partial roll, and the full roll. These types refer to how the collar lies along the neckline. The flatter the collar, the more the pattern curves at the neckline. The full roll collar pattern is straight and stands up against the back of the neck. The partial roll pattern is slightly curved at the neckline and stands less than the full roll but more than the flat. The collar style is determined by the shape of the outer edge. There are many styles of collars including the Peter Pan, Sailor, or Mandarin. There are two methods for converting collar patterns from their originals: slash and spread, and slash and compress. Stand collars consist of only the stand and the fall has been removed. This collar is also known as a Chinese, Mandarin, Military, or Nehru collar.
