ABSTRACT

Measurements are the numbers that define the shape of a figure. While measurements designers can do a great deal about how the figure might be shaped, it is helpful to have an image of the person measured so that they know what the numbers actually mean. The person being measured should wear form-fitting clothing to reduce bulk and allow for the accurate measurements. They need to note the month and year that the measurements are being taken. This is a reminder in case the measurements are needed later and to know how current they are. Neck should measure at the base of the neck. It is easier to take the hip from the side to see the fullness and to make sure that the tape measure is parallel to floor. Sleeve length should be covered from the center back at the base of neck, across the shoulder, down the arm to the elbow and then down to the wrist bone.
