ABSTRACT

The Basic Bodice sloper is a generic shape of a bodice. Once the designers have created these sections of the bodice, they are able, through pattern manipulation, to create other styles. Manipulating fabric while draping is a valuable skill that requires experience and it is usually not successfully achieved at the first attempt. Designers need to understand the habits of the fabric and know when they, or the fabric, should be relaxing and letting the other take control. Trueing is a term used to describe the process of creating accuracy on a draped or drafted sloper. The Princess Bodice is defined as a bodice that follows the lines of the side front seam and side back seam. Commonly known as the “princess lines”. The darts that are found on the Basic Bodice do not exist on this sloper due to the seam lines that are created that run along the center of the line that the darts follow.
