ABSTRACT
This chapter reconstructs the rise of social science in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries against the backdrop of both urbanization and the rise of the social, which were discussed in previous chapters. In particular, it considers the works of the early sociologists Émile Durkheim (1858–1917) and Max Weber (1864–1920).
