ABSTRACT

This final chapter explores active areas of education reform and movements, including such examples as the proliferation of charter school networks, accountability standards, the growth of technology use, and increased modes of online and virtual learning. Social and educational movements reflect the diversity of opinion present in a society, as well as the range of perceived options. The authors review important theories used to explain movements, specifically the nature of those impacting education, the educational periods that have influenced today’s systems of education, and important societal trends that will determine further change or reinforce those that are already taking place.
