ABSTRACT

Project management is a practical discipline, whereby knowledge and skills, and tools and techniques, are applied in the pursuit of project success. Concise case studies, as well as recent articles by the author and by Moriarty and Honnery are included in this chapter to afford the reader an opportunity to put into practice the concepts, principles, and practices discussed throughout the book, and to trigger discussions on issues of operations and sustainability. This section also reiterates that projects should be initiated with the goal of making improvements to operations in mind, as a fundamental Systems Engineering principle.

The practical exercises provided seek to highlight the implications of operability failures for the business, as well as how Operational Readiness could be planned and implemented in various settings. Since successful System Deployment depends upon effective Operational Readiness implementation, the reader is encouraged to grasp its intricacies, requirements, and implications for the business.
