ABSTRACT

This fourth chapter looks more closely at the findings that were first represented in Chapter Three. The review of the literature, as presented in Chapter Two, provided detailed insights into topics that are closely related to the three guiding research questions of the study, but no one had studied the specific scenario addressed by this explanatory sequential mixed methods study. Ways in which the findings of this study are in alignment with the existing literature are explained. The literature provided ideas related to both practical and theoretical implications that were useful in creating recommendations for next steps in Chapter Five. After exploring those ties, this chapter delineates the findings through a societal perspective with emphasis on Critical Race Theory (CRT) to have a wider view of implications. The explanation of CRT in relation to the findings relies on the understanding that schools and society are tightly connected, thanks to the writings of Dewey. This chapter delineates the important connections between past theory, research, and practice with this new study.
