Chapter Overview

This chapter explores the construction of school counseling offices where HHSWT can be actualized. Drawing from a medley of research which details the lack of school counseling specific office design, culturally responsive office design and office design that involves youth as essential co-creators, this chapter distills a youth-centered office construction process. Considering offices that enable youth to present themselves authentically, through HHSWT, hip-hop studios are discussed as community-defined environments with apparent value in fostering emotional expression and self-exploration. Through the analysis of qualitative data, as well as some personal narratives surrounding hip-hop studios, this chapter aims to evince the power of co-creating hip-hop studios as school counseling offices.
