ABSTRACT

This chapter offers practical advice and suggested teaching activities for delivering a unit of work on Julius Caesar for Year 4. This unit presents an excellent opportunity to think about choices and consequences and is integrated into wider curriculum objectives for drama, art, history, RE and PSHE.

This chapter includes key information on the background to the play and when and why it was written. We have included a selection of valuable context for teachers, including a summary of the play, famous quotations and interesting facts. We point teachers towards adaptations and videos of the story to use in their teaching, as well as guidance for making this unit of work inclusive.

The activities in this unit have been designed to lead your class towards designing persuasive election posters, writing grand speeches inspired by Brutus and Mark Antony and a stop-motion animation project to retell scenes from the play.
