ABSTRACT

This chapter offers practical advice and suggested teaching activities for delivering a unit of work on Macbeth for Year 5. This topic includes activities to respond to the story through art, drama, music, science and dance.

This chapter includes key information on the background to the play and when and why it was written. We have included a selection of valuable context for teachers, including a summary of the play, famous quotations and interesting facts. We point teachers towards adaptations and videos of the story to use in their teaching, as well as guidance for making this unit of work inclusive.

The activities in this chapter are designed to help your class write hip-hop raps based on the witches’ spell, a playscript depicting the final showdown between Macbeth and Macduff and a digital storytelling project using Scratch.
