ABSTRACT

This chapter offers practical advice and suggested teaching activities for delivering a unit of work on A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Year 2. Through drama, woodland activities, model building and arts and crafts, the children will explore the theme of magic and wonder in this play.

This chapter includes key information on the background to the play and when and why it was written. We have included a selection of valuable context for teachers, including a summary of the play, famous quotations and interesting facts. We point teachers towards adaptations and videos of the story to use in their teaching, as well as guidance for making this unit of work inclusive.

The teaching sequence leads children towards designing a comic strip based on the story, a written character description and a filmmaking activity exploring the enchanted forest.
