ABSTRACT

Developing new ideas and thinking is one way an organization grows and adapts to move towards excellence. The importance of developing and maintaining efficient processes and documented procedures cannot be over-stated. Organizations often design their rules in a manner that hold them back from success. Poorly designed procedures cause people to work harder instead of smarter. Procedures often continue to grow and become more and more cumbersome and bureaucratic. An organization that fails to follow its own procedures eventually experiences significant problems. Permitted to continue, the manifestation degrades to the point that deviance from expected conduct becomes normal behavior. An abundance of poor procedures and ignoring procedures each create serious issues. Procedural inefficiencies are one of the largest contributors to the delta between the current and desired culture that will enable to achieve excellence.
