ABSTRACT

Sexuality is a complex web of interacting elements that make up our lived experience. However, the common understanding of sexuality is simplified – often thought only to encompass sexual behavior, sexual orientation, or similar – which is a disservice to research exploring sexuality from a scientific standpoint. Thus, this chapter endeavors to redefine sexuality from a sexological purview, exploring its nuances and complexity. The Circles of Sexuality model – which names sexual health, intimacy, sensuality, identity, and sexuality as unique and overlapping sexual experiences – is employed. This chapter challenges the accepted understanding of sexuality and invites readers to expand their perspective by providing an easy-to-understand model.
