ABSTRACT

The conclusion is dedicated to the presentation of the most important findings which were more deeply elaborated on in the individual chapters of the book. The conclusion provides answers on defined research questions and it concludes that the regime created by Daesh fulfilled several key features of a totalitarian regime. These include the presence of an official ideology based on the selective and radical interpretation of Islamism, a comprehensive system of propaganda, a political system with a monist centre of power in the conquered territories, violation of the private sphere of the inhabitants accompanied with a high level of violence or the creation of a deliberated economy centred on the needs of the terrorist organization. However, some totalitarian features are not present or might be considered as very problematic. This is especially due to the lack of mass mobilization, the “institutional emptiness” of the regime, and the unconsolidated nature of the system with implications for the monist centre of power. The last part of the conclusion reveals the prospects for further research in the context of actual trends.
