ABSTRACT

The sixth chapter is dedicated to Daesh and violence as the process of the emergence, expansion, or attempts for internal consolidation were accompanied by high levels of brutal violence. This chapter consists of three parts. While the first part explores violence “inside” in the territories conquered by Daesh, the second part deals with violence conducted on various ethnic or religious groups including Christians, Jews, Shia, Yazidi, and Druze. The third part highlights the special role of violence within Daesh’s propaganda. The aim of the chapter is to provide an overview of approaches towards various ethnic and religious groups. The chapter helps to answer questions: what is the nature, level, and justification of violence within the regime and who are the main targets of the violence?
