ABSTRACT

Product planning activities are greatly affected by company culture and people. To innovate successfully, firms need to have the right organizational culture in place. Some organizational cultures are based on values that focus on external factors such as the market, competition, and customers. Other organizational cultures are internally positioned, meaning that they focus on employees, leadership styles, adhering to long-standing company traditions, and maintaining a steadfast focus on specific areas of expertise. The core team consists of the original, permanent team members who represent the critical skill sets necessary for achieving the team's given objective. The ad hoc team includes team members who are added when specialized skill or knowledge outside of the core team's expertise is needed. The extended team represents support personnel who help the core team accomplish its given objective. Organizational support for teams concerns issues related to performance appraisal, career development, pay and promotion, and organizational culture.
