ABSTRACT

This final chapter starts by considering aspects of living with inequality brought into focus by the recent Covid-19 pandemic. That wider consideration is followed by a discussion of controversies about vaccine and surveillance compliance, with older resonances. The speed of production, political economy of vaccine take-up and resistance to governmental authority are all relevant in this regard. At the end of the chapter we consider the matter of post-viral conditions and their existence beyond a consideration of ‘long Covid’ alone. We emphasise throughout that whilst the recent pandemic had its particular features it is not unique. To assume a portrayal of uniqueness risks ignoring much of what we already knew about living with health inequalities.
