ABSTRACT

Teacher professional development within the industrial school is typically approached in a topical fashion, targeting methods of content delivery, and neglecting to attend to the underlying beliefs and intentions that teachers bring to their work. Successful implementation of the method depends on learners and adults assuming responsibility to their roles as participants in the Formats. The Training Lead manages that initiative. Professional development in schools is traditionally designed to support training in methods of knowledge transmission, which is targeted to meet the levels and needs of various subgroups in the school. The industrial design of schools makes it impossible to manage and fund consistent, ongoing professional development support for all of the programs in the school, so typically only reading and math instruction programs receive attention. The Framework for Professional Development is a one-of-a-kind, whole-school approach to improvements in professional practice.
