ABSTRACT

An essential aspect of a successful digital presence is having a secure digital presence. Security is another way of building trust with the people people engage with on a regular basis. Personal security practice is of pivotal importance for people's owned media as well as people's social media channels. The key – literally and metaphorically – to these services are people's passwords. Good management practice says that passwords should always be stored as encrypted data. The principle is that when people then try to log in again, the password people's type in his first encrypted and then compared against the already-encrypted but previously stored version of people's password. Similar caution should be exercised with social media channels that do not lock out requests after a small number of failed attempts. Script kiddies and professional hackers take advantage of the double edged sword of security. Some debate has occurred in recent years about the frequency that a password should be changed.
