ABSTRACT

The use of the Adolf Eichmann and Rudolf Kastner trials is a good illustration of the way in which Soviet propaganda has systematically misrepresented any Jewish effort at rescue through negotiation as its opposite – Zionist connivance in the ‘mass destruction of Jews’. The myth of Nazi-Zionist collaboration has been pushed with special intensity in the Ukraine, probably to serve the dual purpose of sowing hatred and distrust between Ukrainians and Jews and simultaneously blackening both Zionist and Ukrainian ‘bourgeois-nationalist’ tendencies. The Soviet offensive, carrying the myth of Nazi-Zionist collaboration full circle to describe Israel itself as a Nazi state, goes back to 1961, to the time of the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem. The United Nations resolution of November 1975 equating Zionism with racism, masterminded by the Soviet Union with the help of the Arab states, brought to fruition the first stage of the international campaign against Israel.
