ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a green mixed-use development, which is the case of Nanjing high-tech industrial development zone in the same city in central-east China. The concept of green mixed-use development sits within the green urbanism area. In his earlier work, Lehmann identifies three pillars of green urbanism, namely energy and materials, water and biodiversity, and urban planning and transport. The more recent model of green mixed-use development often includes industrial zones and redevelopment of brownfields into new high-tech zones or light industries. The establishment of the green mixed-use development district-level zone has promoted urban green economic growth, and this promotion is mainly achieved through the “technical leader transfer effect”. Nanjing High-tech Industrial Development Zone takes the “green high-tech zone” as its development concept. With its resource advantages, the project adopts policy guidance, introduces green technologies, creates a cultural atmosphere, and implements other measures to develop the park’s green technology industry.
