ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the topic of green campus and explores the case of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), located in the City of Ningbo, east China. The green campus can provide effective ideas and practices for modeling a sustainable city. Green campus evaluation started from the attempts to assess sustainability in universities. This initially began with the assessment of present sustainability practices on campuses using questionnaires. The UNNC is the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China with the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education. Although the UNNC has not been established for very long, it has accomplished many achievements in green campus construction. The most noteworthy is the construction of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies in 2008, becoming the first zero-emission and fully energy-sufficient building in China. At the same time, the UNNC has also made efforts to build a green campus in education and scientific research.
