ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to the many conceptual frameworks, tools, and directions for understanding sustainable urbanism at the neighborhood level. The concept of sustainable community combines the principles of architecture, ecology, and sociology, reflects the harmonious relationship between human and nature, and follows the tenets of sustainable development. The neighborhood’s real value is its future use as a significant aspect of sustainable cities. Urban development based on neighborhoods contributes to designing pedestrian and transit-oriented urban environments that can reduce automobile dependency. In general, it is widely verified that the system supporting sustainable urbanization has four main aspects, including Overall economic progress, The sustainable development of society, Environmental protection, and An Institution of equal rights. A great part of sustainable urbanism is associated with planning and policies. This could be from larger-scale planning strategies to building-level policies that suggest energy-efficient planning, green development, and sustainable living.
