ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the literature review on emergency department organizations and the study of satisfaction factors. An Emergency department (ED) is the most complex unit of a hospital, where patients appear without any prior appointment, either by their own means or by ambulance. A patient suffering from an accident or a sudden injury, for example, will be directly addressed to the ED. “The problem of ED overcrowding and patient boarding can be also alleviated by a proper assessment of the demographic needs, including population age/density, historical trauma, emergency medicine trends, and disaster preparedness. Care, another valuable factor in ED problems, should be provided based on specialization and should not depend on attracting the greatest number of patients. Patient experience is classified under the satisfaction or dissatisfaction in relation to a certain medical service. It is the patient’s judgment on the quality of care provided during a visit.
