ABSTRACT

The introduction will lay the foundation for the book. A brief discussion of the legal definition of homicide followed by a discussion of what types of people commit homicide and the reasons for such criminality supported by scholarly research will be provided to the reader. Attention will be given to the vast complexities that surround homicide, such as arguments gone too far, jealousy, and the influence of alcohol and drugs. As the reader moves through the text, they will see that the authors have gone to great lengths to incorporate many of the different complex contextual situations that are part-and-parcel to all homicides, as each section introduction will contain cited original research describing the current state of the particular topic of the section. Data from the Uniform Crime Report (UCR), National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), and Supplementary Homicide Report (SHR) will be utilized to give readers a snapshot of the current state of homicide in the US.
