ABSTRACT
This chapter studies the historical, systemic, and empirical dimensions of African American voting behavior. It then presents a comparison of the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, focusing on the roles of race and gender in the Democratic primaries and of white nationalism in the nomination and election of Donald Trump.
