ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on domestic policy and the quest of African Americans to end systemic racism in employment, housing, health, the criminal justice system, and the distribution of income and wealth. Noting that race-based inequalities in these areas is related to the operations of capitalism, it is suggested that the achievement of racial equality may require reforms in the both the economic and race-based systems of subordination. The disparate racial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is used as a case study on the impact of systemic racism on the well-being of African Americans.
