ABSTRACT
In this chapter the focus is first on the evolution of White opinion on race, from overt white supremacist and racist attitudes to more subtle symbolic, modern racism or racial resentment. It then shifts to African American opinion, studying in detail alienation, and the ideological manifestations of opinion as expressed in liberalism, conservatism, black nationalism, and feminism.
