ABSTRACT
This chapter’s focus is first on the historic and contemporary roles of the black press as an agent of socialization, protest, and vindication. It also discusses the incorporation of Blacks into the mass media, the new media, mass media coverage of African Americans, and the political impact of black celebrities.
