ABSTRACT
This chapter examines various economic issues in Europe, including features of the European welfare state, economic policies at the national and EU level, and various economic reform proposals. It examines the causes and consequences of the European debt crisis of the early 2010s. It surveys national and EU efforts to combat the 2020 coronavirus pandemic and the initial economic fallout of this latest crisis.
