ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the predatory publishing business of providing artificial, unreproducible metrics based on unreliable or opaque criteria. It also introduces some OA journal indexes that do not have inclusion criteria, do not support interoperability of online searches, and contain exclusively predatory journals. These predatory metrics and indexes are interdependent with predatory journals. They rely on each other to boost their businesses for the sole purpose of making a profit. By presenting examples, the chapter describes how predators imitate the ecosystem of legitimate scholarly publishing in support of the predatory market.
