ABSTRACT

In this methodological chapter, how the research and analysis have been conducted is addressed. Not only classic methodological issues (research design, data collection and analysis) are covered, but also the many dilemmas, quandaries and problems faced during these processes, the author’s options for handling them, and the concrete chosen processes in order to transform raw data in the form of interview transcripts into coherent voices. In this concluding chapter, this book is furthermore identified as pushing forward the potential of intersectionality as it engages very seriously the extremely rich “stuff” of how people identify and negotiate their social statuses in dynamic interactions of axes of identification. And this thick analysis spans socio-geographic scales (from the intimate to the transnational), across time (both personal and institutional) and across contexts. However, this chapter critically recognizes the book’s limitations and suggests alternative methodological routes that can be taken to research intersectionality.
