ABSTRACT

The value of unpacking learning targets is most directly beneficial and applicable for classroom teachers, as they are the ones both planning and implementing classroom lessons. District Level Curriculum Personnel should come as no surprise that the workload from this process, just like most others, can be substantially reduced when have multiple people and departments all working in concert toward the same goal. Chances are that if the push for unpacking learning targets is coming from the district level then representation from the district’s curriculum department will be neck-deep in the process. Teachers may want or need guidance when going through this process, so in order to ensure that the process is done with fidelity, coaching and support should be offered. This process is also extremely beneficial for teacher assistants who are commonly charged with assisting in lessons, and/or conducting small groups and one-on-one teacher-to-student situations.
